Legal fees can be very expensive in litigation matters, including divorce and custody issues. At Michael A. Fleming, P.C., we discuss fees up front and encourage ongoing review of fees by our clients so that their litigation decisions can include a realistic appraisal of the expense that various options may entail.
Our normal hourly rates are well within the customary range in the Peoria area for attorneys of our experience. With fees generally charged on an hourly basis, it is impossible to provide an accurate fee quote at the beginning of a litigation matter, but we will explain our current hourly rates at the initial consultation; and we will do our best to provide you with a range of likely fees, and information on what kinds of services and occurrences are most likely to significantly increase the total cost.
Most litigation matters require an initial retainer for us to become involved. We try to keep initial retainers reasonably low, with additional retainers possibly required from time to time as the case moves forward.
Initial consultations about your case are not normally free but are typically charged at less than half the normal hourly rate.
We do try to recognize cases where our customary rates and charges are beyond the reasonable reach of the client, and to consider possible "sliding scale" adjustments for those cases, to try to make our legal services more affordable.
